| i think highly influential games like ocarina of time or metal gear solid deserve to be preserved in their original form, low-quality textures and models, unrefined interfaces and control paradigms and all. the limitations asserted on developers and artists by contemporary technology and the decisions that needed to be made around them are an inseparable part of those titles. you wouldn't repaint a van gogh in acryllic and argue you're modernising a dated, flawed work. the original context is important. maybe if dated visuals are too much of a turn-off for you, that should just be a you problem. |

| i've been a huge fan of the mario & luigi rpg series since i got a loose cartridge of superstar saga from my local game store as a kid, but i regret to admit that i'm only now getting around to playing brothership. thankfully i bought it closer to launch, so here's hoping my purchase still conveyed to nintendo that there's people out there who'll buy new entries in the series. that aside, it's incredible. i was curious how it would come out with alphadream being long gone now, and seeing how the paper mario franchise has been homologised as hell for more than a gen now. they totally nailed it, though. the original setting and characters, the artstyle and the story are all hitting so far. they even got the wordplay right. i couldn't be happier, genuinely. |

i dug out an old box of xbox 360 games and peripherals during a recent move, and i'm amazed by how well the 360 controller holds up. i genuinely think making it rely on AA batteries was great future proofing, and it works so well on linux too. i honestly feel silly ever buying an aftermarket hyperkin duchess last year, as much as i love that thing.

i've been getting into super gt lately and i can't believe they've been putting hatsune miku on an amg gt3 and making her race supras since 2017. that's so mean. i'd be super into it if it wasn't a euro car racing against way more fun jp cars (brz gt300 my beloved) [src]
